What building is right for me?

Size

The most important thing to decide is what you want to use the building for. Storage, workshop, gym, office, quiet space, extra room for your teenagers, extra bedroom, As with space in kitchens, bedrooms, etc., you can never have enough. Get the largest building budget and space will allow. Or possibly think about 2, one for storage and one for relaxing/entertaining. Check which direction is which and what the measurements refer to. Is it the biggest measurement possible – from the tip to tip of the facia? The exterior walls? Buildings are usually made to metric measurements and imperial is for guidance only.

Shire measurements refer to footprint of the floor. Therefore space should be allowed for roof overhang, etc. Planning Permission is it needed? Usually it isn’t, but do check – sends you to an interactive page which explains where planning would be needed. to apply for planning, all files are transmitted through the internet so hard copies are not required. To pay for the council fees you can either pay online by cards, post a cheque or go into the local council and pay by cash.

Design

Apex – pointed roof or Pent – sloping roof. Can the door open fully, is the door in the right place? Normally doors are hinged on the right, would it be better hinged on the left? Do you need a window at all – or extra windows? If you are unable to find anything suitable for your needs in the huge range Shire offers, as all Shire buildings are manufactured at our site in Wisbech, England, we are able to construct any building to your personal requirements
